Sooner or later, you’re going to have to stop being offended by everything. It’s okay to let others have an opinion. By doing so, you will become free. Far too many of us are living a life of captivity and don’t even realize it. Holding on to anger and needing to be right, is a mindset of the miserable. Allow for others not to steal your peace.
I am not talking about acceptance. I am not condoning bad behavior. I am literally talking about self liberation. Minding your mind, is a skill set that will serve you well. Because that’s where your power is at. That is how the magic happens. And baby, magic ain’t nothing but a mindset.
I recall a time when a new client came in to see me. They were mentally distraught. She told me her account of when her boyfriend spoke harshly to her. He said some pretty disturbing things, but they worked through them. Today, her relationship is suffering again. I asked her how long it had been since he had spoken harshly to her. She said.” Oh, I’m not with him anymore. This was last year.” Wow! Two things. First, she told me that they worked through them. Secondly, she hasn’t been with this guy for just shy of a year. Get it? Holding on to something that is not really relevant, has spilled over into her new relationship.
Yes, there will be things that sit with us. There are indeed situations that will cause us psychological trauma. And it’s not for me, your family, friends or anyone else to say get over it. The point is, it is your job. How much of our programing is inappropriate? I live here in the states. Watching people literally losing their mind over the last presidential election was disturbing. Truly made me embarrassed to be an American. And despite having some of my best friends saying and doing things that I would dare never do, I stayed in peace, did not get offended and we remained friends. How did I do that? Please read the first 2 lines of this article again.
