Jenelle Ashaki Patrick GAME CHANGER

Jenelle Ashaki Patrick describes herself as a Crochetpreneur. She currently resides in Florida USA but is from the parish of St. Mark’s in Victoria. Jenelle stated that her background in Psychology and Public Administration led her to a career in Counseling but her true passion is in Crochet and other crafts. She learned the basics of crochet from her mom Jennifer at the tender age of six and quickly went on to teach herself more advance stitches, pattern reading, knitting and a host of other styles. “I believe that creating always came to me with ease, due to both my parents being creatives.” Her mom not only crocheted but also learned to sew at a young age and has continue to build on her skills and now sewing has become her favorite pastime. Her late father, Thomas “Parson” Barry was also a creator, he crafted beautiful pieces out of wood and many other raw materials.

In 2009, Jenelle began taking crafting more seriously. Her pieces were captured in photo shoots, featured in fashion shows and as a result these activities began to bring her more recognition as CNCCreations within the Brooklyn communities and the surrounding areas in which she once reside. In 2016, Jenelle and her team hosted their own Carnival Fancy Mas Band within Gouyave St. John’s which incorporated crochet into their costumes. Crochet was incorporated in the headpieces, bras and accessory pieces and those pieces were also featured in two of the Soca Monarch and Groovy Competition performances that year.

Since then, Jenelle has gone on to rebrand and turned her craft into a business formerly known as CNCCreations and in January  2021, Ashaki By Design, LLC was birth. The name of her brand signifies the beauty of design and passion that she produced through her love for crochet. “Ashaki” means, Beautiful in West Africa…. so, it seemed only fitting to use her middle name for her brand as Ashaki By Design is an extension of who she is and what she represents. Jenelle stated, I continue to “hook” hats, scarves and baby blankets however, I have also expanded to hooking clothing items and fashion accessories for individuals and homes plus there are still so much more to come.

When asked what does her craft means to her? Jenelle replied, “I always say that I eat, sleep, and breathe crochet, however my greatest joy is receiving customer reviews and photos of satisfaction, excitements and thanks.” The love and appreciation that Jenelle receives from her ABD Allstars in regard to her skill and talents is what drives her to continue to create, step out of her comfort zone and to take risks. Jenelle is currently pursuing a certification in Crochet Instructions, as she plans on teaching Crochet just as her mom taught her but she is desirous of being better equipped and certified in her skill set.

This Daughter of the Soil plans on returning to participating and hosting Fashion Shows and Photo shoots in the near future as her dreams of Ashaki By Design (ABD) being a brand known by all for its uniqueness, fashionability and creativity. Jenelle ships locally within the USA and internationally. As she grows her brand, Jenelle wants to create and to represent her homeland, the Spice Isle by incorporating the colors of her flag, seeking out sons and daughters of the soil as models and brand ambassadors.
